Created by Rimini Protokoll and inspired by Thomas More’s Utopia, Utopolis asked whether another society might exist, if only for a utopian moment.

A visionary site-specific work, it uses intricate tapestries of sound and voices to transform views of a city. Gathering in dozens of small groups at multiple locations, participants were given a passport, wristband and speaker to carry with them as they explored the people and places that shape Manchester’s daily life and discovering the many ways in which citizens build communities, society and democracy.

An identity was designed the reflected the experience, including a logo, symbols, signage, map, passport, promotional and speaker design.
